Living with Mesothelioma -My Diary- The ADAO Awards and conference

The dog doesn’t realise that I sat up to the early hours so that I could watch the ADAO award ceremony.

We had been watching all day through the conference

The day started with

The postman has just bought be a parcel of Flowers and chocolates from Debbie –To Ray and Louis as well I love surprises–do I have to share the Chocolates though or can I hide them in the bedroom and have them when everyone’s asleep ♥

Debbie of  won the Award last year and was able to fly to the USA but of coarse she came back and then found her Theo to be growing again. It is a risk you take when you fly and I just would not take that risk. My Doctor has said anything can happen in a long haul flight, a lung could collapse even in a presurised cabin and also the recycled air is bad for us Mesothelioma sufferers. Then of coarse Ray went and had his heart attack so I wouldn’t want to leave him hereon his own so its great I had carried out a secret acceptance with Linda.

Photo: One of my favorite spitfires from the UK, Christine Winter.. talking on the asbestos ban in the UK...

We heard many speakers and Christine gave the best I have heard which was great as she mentioned me and my IATP award with the wonderful night we had in Derby in January.

She holds that dear to heart as it was the first one IATP had attempted and it was such a great success.

Photo: This panel is all about prevention. Experts in the field of asbestos laws and education on abatement.. all agree that the laws aren't doing what they should.

John Thayer told the real story.  They found asbestos under the steps of the capital building evene

We learned that 20% of cancer patients are available for clinical trials but only 3% actually participate! The National Cancer Institute says more people are needed to help find a cure!.and money is needed to fund the trials – All the same problem as us when it comes to Clinical trials –US doesnt have as many trials as we thought.

We are seeing at Baron and Budd is accurate. More women are being diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Sweden banned asbestos 30 years ago and have had a “decline” in asbestos related diseases and deaths…..seems congress could learn some thing from our European friends…..I think the USA needs to feel some shame+guilt=shuilt regarding why our elected officials are not showing leadership in this country and stepping up to prevent the horrors asbestos brings.

Think Asbestos has been banned in the US ? Think again.. they still import it to the tune of 100 tons a YEAR…
It’s still widely used in brake shoes, roofing, and many commercial applications.
