Cant believe a week has gone by and this time last week we were in Holland where all the bulbs come from.
So much has happened with me now a carer for Ray. I cant stand the pain he is in as he cant move as he gets up from a chair. It does improve as he moves. Today he has had a blood test but is Xray results are not going to be there until Monday. I really wish we had gone to A&E as they cant let you home until they sort what the problem is.So we are muddling through together.
I have had a busy week as I have had so many new contacts with Mesothelioma. newly diagnosed and lost. I pass over all the Info of Mesothelioma UK all the info on trials and I love it when they say I have given them so much hope. That is what I wish I had when I was first diagnosed. I set pattern of treatment to follow.
There are three trials for us now. This is exciting times. At last real treatment is real drugs.
This is the most exciting as verestem have patnered MSD (Merck)
MSD, Verastem and Cancer Research UK are to trial a new combination of immunotherapy drugs as potential treatment for mesothelioma, non small cell lung and pancreatic cancers.
The Phase Ib/IIa trial, which will run through CR UK’s Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre network at sites in Edinburgh-Dundee, Southampton, Glasgow, Leicester and Belfast, will look into whether a focal adhesion kinase (FAK) inhibitor drug from Verastem called VS-6063 (defactinib) can boost the effectiveness MSD’s PD-1 immunotherapy Keytruda (pembrolizumab).
Then we had this link A trial looking at vinorelbine for people with advanced pleural mesothelioma (VIM)
Phase II Anetumab Ravtansine as 2nd Line Treatment for Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma (MPM)
How wonderful a choice of trials. I kept saying 2016 was going to be great and now it looks like 2017 is going to get even better.
We really must keep pushing Our Oncologists to get Trial wise. To many are sticking to paliative care they really should keep on top of the trials and refer patients to the Main Cancer Hospitals that are geared up to these trials, Glasgow Leicster St Barts and Southampton Oxford. Please keep chasing them.
A video of Asbestos and how it causes Mesothelioma has been shared on Tweet It is the best Video I have seen
Workers in the installation industry are at risk during their work come into contact with the carcinogen asbestos. In this film we follow the life of mechanic Joost, who breathes unnoticed harmful asbestos fibers on one day during his work. The film makes the consequences of exposure to asbestos clearly insistently and invites the viewer to join themselves to consult what they can do for Joost colleagues who work daily in an environment where, and to protect as asbestos can be released.
I also recieved a email from the BBC as I complained about the Gas Mask that was handled in Antiques Road Show. It was a lovely apology.
Dear Mrs Nye
Thank you for contacting us about Antiques Roadshow, 25/09/2016 an your concern regarding the gas mask from the 1940s.
We flagged this up with a senior staff member on the programme team, who responded as follows:
“Many thanks for reiterating important safety issues surrounding gas masks. As you are no doubt aware the gas mask featured on Antiques Roadshow from Arley Hall and Gardens was part of a general discussion about handbags from the Second World War period contrasting two very different uses. The owner featured used to take part in 1940’s re-enactments as she discussed during the recording with our miscellaneous specialist Elaine Binning.
I am pleased to report that a follow up phone call from the Antiques Roadshow production office confirmed that our owner was indeed aware of the safety issues surrounding old gas masks. At no point during the recording did Elaine or the owner advocate trying on the gas mask but on reflection it was a missed opportunity for the Antiques Roadshow to reinforce these important safety considerations to a wider audience. We will endeavour to make sure that on future new recordings featuring gas masks on the programme we include reference to the latest safety advice. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.”
We hope this helps to address your concerns and we thank you for taking the time to contact us.

How scarey Got one of these? Toilet cisterns come in all sorts of sizes and materials some of which are Blue #Asbestos like this one.
How many of these are in use today as I have seen some like this in public loos Im sure.
How are we supposed to recognise such a dangerous object.
Thanks All Survey Ltd @AllSurvey Sep 29 for tweeting this.
R B Asbestos @RBAsbestos We found #asbestos rope seal around this boiler that was being used in a training centre for young apprentices to train on. #StopAsbestos pic.twitter.com/jn1ApK3sQ7 These were fouund on Surveys this week. i love all the photos and people know I do so they make sure I see them.
It gives an insight into how Asbestos is still in our lives and we must be complacent about the substance.
If you are worried call in the experts it really isnt worth the risk
